The restaurant can now seat over 700 patrons. In 1978, they added a successful 175 seat Giggles Comedy Club. The restaurant expanded by adding a large dining room and three function rooms. Arthur Castraberti, an employee Prince Macaroni in Lowell, MA turned down an opportunity to manage the restaurant and purchased the property. In 1961 the Prince Macaroni Company owned a small 12 seat pizzeria at this Saugus location. The smaller upper column has bifurcated metal red-white-green banner. ![]() The tower has the sign PIZZA in large vertical red letters on each side of the main column. The tower is easily visible from both directions of busy US Route 1.Ī two stage column is painted with the famous circular colonnades of the Italian original. ![]() The tower has 296 or 294 steps the seventh floor has two fewer steps on the north-facing staircase. According to their website they are the largest independently owned pizzeria in America but what make this restaurant unusual is a variation the common pizza/Pisa pun - a 30' replica of the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa protrudes from the roof. The tower is one of three structures in the Pisa's Cathedral Square (Piazza del Duomo), which includes the cathedral and Pisa Baptistry. This pizza restaurant has two claims to fame.
